Condition grades

Draft definitions · pending copy approval

These grades describe a bike’s condition. Read the listing’s inspection notes for the details of that bike, and ask questions before arranging a handoff.

Excellent

Very little visible wear. There may be small marks from use.

Good

Some visible wear from regular use, such as scratches or scuffs.

Fair

More noticeable wear, such as multiple scratches or worn finishes. Check the inspection notes for any work identified.

A grade alone does not describe every component or replace the inspection notes.

Pedal Protection

Protected payments are coming soon. For now, buyers and sellers arrange payment between themselves at the handoff.

For Buyers

Browse listings, open a bike you like, and message the seller to ask questions and agree on a time. You meet at the partner shop where the bike was inspected, see it in person, and complete the handoff there. Protected online payment through Pedal Local is coming soon.
Bikes with a Shop checked label are checked in person by a local partner shop. The mechanic checks brakes, drivetrain, frame, wheels and the serial number, then grades the bike Excellent, Good or Fair. The grade appears on the listing. Read the condition definitions.

Don't complete the handoff if the bike doesn't match its listing. You can also report the listing from its page so our team can review it.
No affiliate programs are live yet. Links on the brand deals page go to the brand’s website and may become affiliate links. If they do, Pedal Local may earn a commission. The price you pay is the price shown by the brand.
Listings have a set price. You can message the seller before committing to purchase to discuss the price.

For Sellers

Click Sell a Bike, fill in your bike's details, choose a partner shop near you for inspection, set your price, and submit. Drop off your bike at the shop — once inspected and graded, your listing goes live.
Listing is free. When your bike sells, Pedal Local charges a seller fee of 7% of the sale price, capped at $500. The partner shop charges a flat inspection fee (typically $20–35) paid at drop-off.
Inspection time depends on the shop. Your listing goes live as soon as the shop approves it, and you can follow its status on your seller dashboard.
Online payouts arrive with protected payments, which are coming soon. For now, the buyer pays you directly at the handoff.
Live listings stay up for 60 days. You can renew a listing from your seller dashboard when it's close to expiring.
The serial number is usually stamped or engraved on the underside of the bottom bracket (the metal shell where the pedal cranks attach). It may also appear on the head tube or rear dropout. Serial numbers are optional on Pedal Local but help with theft recovery and inspection records.

For Shops

Apply here. We review each application and contact you about next steps. Approved shops get a shop dashboard for managing inspections.
Shops charge a flat inspection fee collected at drop-off, plus receive a per-transaction fee from Pedal Local for every completed sale facilitated at their location.
